The IWCM training will be rolled out in stages as modules are developed by our teams of Subject Matter Experts.  An outline of the timing for release of modules can be found by CLICKING HERE.

Curriculum Structure
The planned courses in the IWCM curriculum are arraigned in two major groups.  The first group is a set of five courses that are compulsory for anyone working toward a CWCMP certification from the Institute.  The length of these courses are planned to be either one or two days of traditional classroom instruction combining to be a total of 48 hours of instruction.  The second group is the set of elective courses whose length will very from ½ day seminars to 2 days of instruction, a minimum of 32 hours of elective instruction must be completed.  For details of CWCMP certification CLICK HERE.

Warranty Fundamentals (16 hours – 2 days)
This 2-day course is aimed at providing a robust introduction to warranty management and the warranty value chain.  The targeted audience is anyone working toward CMCMP certification, first level warranty appointments and warranty system managers.   At completion of is course the student will possess the following:

• Ability to calculate total business cost of warranty for your US based company
• Working understanding of the elements of the warranty value chain and how they interact
• Knowledge of effective metrics that measure and drive warranty improvement throughout the warranty value chain and the product life cycle.
• Working understanding of the fundamentals of Warranty and the Law
• Understand the critical role of Design for Warranty concepts to warranty improvement programs
• Elements of successful of a warranty improvement program and it’s limitations
• Elements of designing and deploying effective warranty services
• Working knowledge of warranty finance and product warranty cost estimation
• Understand the basics elements of a effective extended warranty program

Warranty Metrics and Benchmarking (8 hours – 1 day)
This one day course will introduce the student to a set of business and operational metrics for the key components and processes of the warranty value chain.   The targeted audience is anyone managing warranty improvement projects or managing a warranty program.  The course will also explore the basic concepts for effective benchmarking, what characterizes effective benchmarking efforts and its pitfalls.  At completion of is course the student will possess the following:

• Working knowledge of primary metrics to measure and track warranty performance throughout the warranty value chain
• Working knowledge of how business model effects the choice of effective warranty strategies and metrics
• Ability to use metrics when defining and tracking warranty improvement projects/programs
• Overview of the principles of business and warranty process benchmarking
• Elements of an effective benchmark project
• Practical guidelines to plan and execute an effective benchmarking effort
• Pitfalls to avoid when performing a benchmark

Warranty Statistics and Analysis (8 hours – 1 day)
This one day course will give the student a robust framework for conducting warranty analysis using various analytical techniques and models. This includes how to gather and interpret data to make better business decisions.  The targeted audience is anyone managing warranty improvement projects, performs warranty cost analysis or managing a warranty program.    At completion of this course the student will possess the following:

• Working knowledge of common statistical methods used to analyze warranty information
• Understanding of some commonly used warranty cost models
• Understand how to intemperate different statistical and analytical methods
• Knowledge of where to apply different statistical/analytical techniques
• Be able to articulate the benefits, advantages and caveats of different methods
• Determine the key decision trade-offs for your business
• Understand how to develop data driven warranty improvement projects

Warranty and the Law (8 hours – 1 day)
This one day course will give the student an in-depth introduction to the legal aspects of warranty contracts.  The targeted audience is anyone defining a warranty policy, performing warranty policy risk assessments, managing warranty improvement projects or managing a warranty program.  The perspective taken in this course is that of lawyer who is working with the product marketing/support organization defining the warranty strategy and the terms and conditions of a warranty policy.  At completion of is course the student will possess the following:

• Working understanding of  modern warranty law and its taxonomy
• Working understanding of the different types of warranty
• Working understanding of Disclaimers and Limitations clauses; hence writing effective contracts
• Understanding of the various remedies to breaches of a warranty contract
• Be able to discuss the issues in managing the third-party beneficiaries clauses of a warranty contract
• Working understanding of class action litigation

Warranty Finance and Cost Estimation (8 hours – 1 day)
This one day course will provide a robust understanding of warranty financial analysis and reporting principles and methods for product warranty cost estimation.   The targeted audience is anyone who is managing warranty improvement projects, performing warranty financial analysis or managing a warranty program.   The perspective taken is that of the business finance and accounting community.  At completion of this course the student will have working knowledge of: 

• What the SEC requires to be reported quarterly/yearly interval
• Accountant’s model(s) for estimating of warranty cost
• Methods for making product accrual estimations
• Using business/financial metrics to drive warranty cost models( the financial perspective)
• How to balance accruals vs. actual warranty costs
• Understanding the importance of managing supplier recovery
• Profiling warranty claims rate over the life of a product
